Leg Workout

Today I was not that motivated to go workout and when I am not feeling motivated I feel that an apple always gives me energy. I am not sure if this is correct but I believe an apple has natural simple sugars that give you energy instead of taking an energy drink or a pre-workout drink. This way I get the energy I need without some of the unwanted and unhealthy effects that go along with energy drinks and pre-workouts. I will try and find an article later on food that gives you energy and follow up this post. All in all, having energy is a very important thing to have when going to workout in order to have a good workout. Without energy in the gym, one might not workout has hard or even leave the gym early and waste a day of working out.

Arriving at the gym it was my legs workout day. I like to warm up pretty well before doing legs and get the blood flowing. Getting the blood flowing also gives you more energy and workout out in general does. After a good 10 minute warm up and plenty of stretching I like to start with barbell squats first. Squatting I feel is one of the best exercises someone can do because you use so many muscles (mainly your legs, but your whole body is in motion).

Squats:

1 warm up set

2 sets reps 8 times

2 sets reps 6 times

If you are trying to gain weight, legs is a good place to start, you can really build a lot of muscle quick. What I try and do when gaining weight is add 5 lbs to my squat each week. Keeping a record is a good idea if you are not good at remembering how much you did the previous week.

After Squats I try and mix up all the other leg workouts you can do such as calves, leg extension, leg curl, and lunges are a few. Again with these workouts, I tend to stick to the ratio of the first 2 sets (rep 8 times) and the last 2 sets (rep 6 times). When building muscle and strength, lifters tend to lift lower reps and higher weight. In the end however, do not try and do too much weight where you lose good form. Proper form is better than lifting an extra 10lbs.
